Shogun review

Shopify page builder with A/B testing and personalization.

Our verdict

Shogun is the pick if you are an established store with a content team that wants shared sections and structured page operations, and you can absorb a $199 or $499 plan for the real features. Its weak point is the editor, which buyers repeatedly describe as painfully slow to work in.

Shogun is aimed at the store that has outgrown a solo builder. Reusable sections, version history and a review workflow are its real draw, and they matter when several people publish pages against one storefront. You can try it free before committing to a plan, and it carries a long track record and a large review base.

For a team running structured content operations, that governance is the reason to look, and it is where Shogun still earns a place.

Two things hold it back for a media buyer. The editor is the complaint that comes up again and again: buyers describe it as slow to work in across every machine they tried, to the point that some went back to plain Shopify pages. And the tiers that carry the features you actually want jump to $199 and $499/mo, well above PageFly for a similar job, while older feedback flags the front-end weight the whole class of builders is known for. Pick it when several people publish to one store and that shared workflow is worth a slower editor.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Shared page blocks, saved versions and an approval step suit a team publishing many pages against one store
  • A long track record and a large review base on the Shopify App Store
  • You can build a page in the free draft mode before you commit to a paid plan

What to watch

  • The editor is the recurring gripe: buyers call it unbearably slow to build in, enough that some revert to plain Shopify pages
  • The useful tiers jump to $199 and $499/mo, well above PageFly for a comparable job
  • Older feedback flags the same front-end weight the category is known for, and that it injects its own tracking pixel

What buyers keep saying

A capable builder with a heavy, slow editor ↓ common complaint

The consistent complaint about Shogun is the editing experience. Buyers describe it as unbearably slow to build in across machines, enough that one team reverted to plain Shopify blog pages, and note it injects its own tracking pixel.

“I've been playing around with the Shogun page builder and no matter what we use, pc, laptop, etc. It's just unbearably slow to use.”

anonymous Reddit: Shogun - anyone else find it slow? : r/shopify

“Very slow. I also didn't like that shogun was adding its own tracking pixel to all of my pages. They shouldn't be tracking my visitors and customers.”

Front end weight has been a long standing knock

Older but repeated feedback calls Shogun's output chunky and a cause of performance drops, the same page-builder-bloat concern that applies across the category.

“Shogun was pretty chunky and added a lot of performance drops when I used it last (admittedly 2021).”
